Hi Everyone,
Well its that time again. Hope you have all had some good flying days as the weather has been so good to us.
Well got some good news as the one of rebuilds has come back from testing and has gone to plan all ok, and is ready to be put in to the fuzz. I cannot wait to get stuck in to that one. I will be putting all the pics on as soon as it is done. I know you will all enjoy them as it is a one off very special heli.
I have had some nice little jobs in as of late and some have been bigger than others. A quite a big job was on a Hughes 530 with a burnt out tail servo which was a bit of a pain, but with a new Futaba 9523 fitted, did the job just nicely.
One of the other things I have been doing over the past few months has been testing out the new little Radio Link 2.4 transmitter which is in my shop. It's a nice little radio. If you are on a budget and dont want to spend a collosal ammout out, then this is the set for you. There is a decent sized lcd screen and a 3d switch, plus easy programming. Bear in mind that most 2.4 in the uk will set you back £165+ and that's just for the transmitter. Well this little set consists of the transmitter, receiver ,charger and batteries - all for the tidy some of £85 - not a bad deal!. I have put this little set through the mill in testing and it has come up with some surprising results. I was so impressed I've bought one for myself.
I've had a nice little 450 electric heli in for some setting up which went well, I'm pleased to say, and was sent back to a very happy customer. Also there was a top of the range Mini Titan which had a very unfourtunate encounter with the ground. During the rebuild of this, I noticed the main shaft bearings where very notchy and worn, which led me to think could this have had somthing to do with the crash. The first thing that will pick up worn bearings will be the gyro, as the vibration will go through the frame. Also, when the heli has been flying for a bit, the problem will get worse . This is because of the good old thing we call friction, which will amplify it, making it worse the longer it flies. I have had somthing similar not too long ago with a 450, where the tail drive was oscillating causing the tail servo to go mad. So, in the interest of safety, it would be a good idea to check your main bearings out now and again just to make sure they are not worn or notchy. This is quite easy. They should just be smooth. If you have any doubts then just change them for what it costs it is cheaper to change them than have the heli crash.
Well, its time for me to go again, so happy flying. Have fun.
